By far the greatest amount of work has been in the field of mini-roundabouts. The Consultancy takes a pride in a long ongoing research of what works and what doesn't. This is a matter that has gone astray in the UK and Penntraff warns against many of the errors that we continue to make here for clients overseas. In France the numbers of normal roundabouts are increasing all the time - around 1,000 are completed each year.
Penntraff provides advice to local authorities throughout the world including a whole day seminar/workshop on the design and use of mini-roundabouts and a second seminar on traffic calming.
The Consultancy published Mini-roundabouts - getting them right! in 1996 and this has now sold out although a new version will be available shortly. See:

 But Penntraff also carries out specialist studies for development schemes, helping to secure the necessary planning permission although this can never be guaranteed.

Area Traffic &
Safety studies		 Traffic Calming cannot be carried out on an individual road without affecting the next ones. Area traffic and Safety studies include a comprehensive approach to the problems improving the environment by making the road network function effectively, efficiently and safely, particularly in residential areas. A strong emphasis on liveability.
Transport
Assessments		 PPG13 advises the need to ensure that single occupancy car journeys particularly for the journey to work are minimised. I will advise on the highway implications of developments, suggest alternatives where practicable and negotiate with the highway authority on your behalf.
Park & Ride Instrumental in the implementation of the Canterbury Park & Ride project and assessment and development of the Medway Towns proposals. Based on parking demand and supply, Park & Ride has to be part of any traffic and transport plan for your urban area.
Safer Routes
to School		 Comprehensive approach to management of school traffic including assessment of different modes of travel, potential alternative routes for pedestrians and cyclists, traffic calming at school entrances.
